Methodology

How we test & score products

Our process is designed for Indian household conditions — voltage, water quality, air quality, and climate vary enormously across India, and a product that works in Europe may fail in Mumbai or Rajasthan. Every review accounts for this.

Our process

01

Category research

We map every major product in a category, including new launches and older models still widely available on Amazon India. We study the manufacturer specs, certifications (BIS, ISI, CE), and technology differences before touching a single review.

02

Verified buyer analysis

We analyse thousands of verified buyer reviews, filtering for recurring themes — what breaks, what surprises, what actually matters day-to-day. This grounds our verdicts in real Indian household conditions, not ideal lab environments.

03

Scoring across criteria

Every product is scored across: build quality, value for money, performance, ease of setup, after-sales service reputation in India, and compatibility with Indian voltage/water/air conditions. Weights vary by category — TDS rejection matters more for a RO system than it does for a smart plug.

04

Verdict and recommendation

We write a clear verdict: who should buy this, who shouldn't, and which alternative to consider. We never rate a product we wouldn't recommend to a friend. If a product scores below 3.5 we don't list it — we note it in comparisons only where relevant.

05

Regular updates

We revisit every review when a new model launches, when Amazon India pricing shifts significantly, or when a pattern of buyer complaints emerges. The 'Last updated' date on each page reflects when the content was last meaningfully reviewed — not just a metadata touch.

Category-specific criteria

Different product categories need different scoring weights. Here are the key factors we evaluate for each of our main coverage areas.

Water Purifiers & RO Systems

  • TDS reduction efficiency
  • Flow rate (litres/hr)
  • Storage tank size
  • Filter life & replacement cost
  • BIS/NSF certification
  • Service network in India

Air Purifiers

  • CADR rating for Indian room sizes
  • PM2.5 and PM10 filtration
  • HEPA + activated carbon filter combo
  • Noise level (dB)
  • Filter replacement cost per year
  • Smart features & app control

Smart Home Devices

  • Works offline (not just cloud)
  • Indian voltage compatibility (220V–240V)
  • Wi-Fi band (2.4 GHz support)
  • App reliability & privacy policy
  • Works with Google Home / Alexa
  • Build quality & warranty

Security Cameras & Doorbells

  • Night vision quality
  • Local vs cloud storage options
  • Motion detection accuracy
  • Weatherproofing (IP rating)
  • Two-way audio
  • Data storage location (India vs abroad)

Energy & Power (UPS, Solar, Inverters)

  • Battery type (tubular vs lithium)
  • Backup duration at rated load
  • Charge time
  • BIS certification
  • Brand service network in India
  • Surge protection

Rating scale

4.5 – 5.0

Outstanding

Best in class — we'd buy this ourselves and recommend it without hesitation.

3.5 – 4.4

Good

Solid pick with minor trade-offs. Worth buying for the right use case.

Below 3.5

Not listed

We won't list sub-3.5 products. They may appear in comparisons as context.
